You have heard of or saw this CC Cream somewhere at some point in your life. It’s on the shelf of your local bodega, you see it in magazines and commercials, all your friends are using and suggesting it.
AND you know it as one of those basic makeup kits, but you still don’t know what it is, or maybe you do, but all the double alphabet creams are confusing you.
However, what most folks don’t know is that Koreans are not born with such perfect flawless skin. Genetics can go so far when it comes to beauty implications.
Koreans and Thais are known for their unique beauty products that don’t always make it to the top of the GQ magazine skincare list. Plus, there has been an explosion in demand for these CC creams in recent years, especially Korean made ones.
In fact, the whole BB and CC cream hype originated in Korea, much like other beauty products like specialized face masks. I will still run over the ABCs of this beauty potion.

1. BANILA CO IT Radiant CC Cream with SPF 30 PA++
This CC cream is known for the many awards it won-InStyle Star Beauty Awards, Cosmo Beauty Awards, and Beauty Awards SURE., which adds to the product’s unique selling point.
But there’s more! This is the first water-based CC cream, which is great if you don’t like your CC creams to be greasy and sticky, or even have oily skin.
Another plus point of BANILA Radiant CC cream is its level of hydration and cooling the skin. So when combined with these and its water-based formula, it’s the ultimate CC cream for summer.
- SPF 30 PA++
- Comes with a pump
- Not always available
- Not much coverage
2. Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream
This is essentially the best cc cream for all skin types because of its mineral-based color-adjusting formula. The product also contains apple essence, which is excellent for smoothing out your face, while brightening it.
Other great ingredients in this particular product are Irish moss and red seaweed extracts. These are like super ingredients as these guards your skin against free radical damage. It also comes with sodium hyaluronate, which basically keeps your skin hydrated.
Overall, this CC cream also conceals any dark spot you may have, softens pore, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Before getting it, be sure to get the right undertone for your skin. If you have a light skin tone, then use the neutral shade and something on the pinker spectrum if you have a medium skin tone.
- Has SPF 35
- Uses a color-adjusting mineral
- Nourishes and moisturizes the skin
- Is a bit sticky after application
- Does not come in a pump bottle
- The container is not very travel-friendly
- Needs foundation and concealer to attain preferred coverage.
3. Etude House CC Cream
This cream needs some handy work for it to blend in, but once it does, it sets in fine. This works as both a base for makeup, and if you already have blessed skin, then you can still use it as sunblock and a skin brightener.
This is the right CC cream for you if you want to go for the glow-on-the-face look.
- SPF 30 PA++
- Stays up to 5 hours before the cream starts fading out.
- Light Coverage
- Does not cause breakouts
- Pump tube.
- Not easy to spread
- Highlights acne and enlarged pores
- Only One Shade
- Does not regulate oil production
4. The Face Shop IT Aura CC Cream
Ironically, the best and also the worst-selling point of this product is its heavy coverage. It’s perfect for anyone with scars and blemishes.
One thing to keep in mind when getting this product is how long it takes to get it shipped to you and IMHO, it can get a bit expensive. Also, use powder if you wish to keep it from getting cakey a couple more hours.
Another ‘bright’ trait of this product comes described with the name- Aura. It has a natural brightening effect.
The packaging of this product is very nice as well. It comes with its very own mirror and cushion and a mechanical pump system, all that in just its compact container.
There are a lot of reviews stating that the product dries out on the user’s skin, but I personally found it to be hydrating.
- SPF 30
- Pleasant scent
- Medium to Full Coverage
- Doesn’t dry out
- Doesn’t cause breakouts
- Natural-looking finish
- Portable and convenient packaging
- It starts getting cakey within 4-5 hours of putting it on.
- No sebum control.
5. Innisfree Serum CC Cream
This is yet another Korean makeup giant, so my initial expectation of the product was relatively high, and surely enough, I was right.
A key selling point of this CC cream is its serum control, which is a not-so-common practice in Korean makeup brands, especially these CC creams.
This is perhaps the best hydrating CC cream out there, about 65% of the ingredients of Innisfree Serum has a moisturizing effect.
The magic of Innisfree Serum’s wonders doesn’t just stop here, the ingredient list os free of parabens, sulfates, alcohol, and other harsh chemicals.
All in all, this was my personal favorite CC cream from the list.
- SPF 35 PA++
- Speeds up wound healing
- Fresh Herbal Smell
- Medium Coverage
- Natural Finish
Oil control last about 2 hours before.
What is CC Cream?
I will start off by losing the acronym, CC stands for Color Correction. This will give you a generalized idea about its applications, but don’t be fooled. It’s more than JUST a color correction cream. And that’s the beauty of it.
CC creams are very lightweight and are absorbed rather quickly. On top of that, these are known to brighten your skin’s complexion.
This beauty cream is often advertised as a moisturizer, foundation, active SPF sunscreen, and a color-correcting cream as well. And rightfully so, CC cream covers all these.
CC creams are infused with light-deflecting particles, hence its use as a sunscreen. And may other active ingredients that emphasize its many applications.
How do CC creams compare in contrast to BB creams?
BB cream stands for ‘Beauty Balm’ and sometimes even ‘Blemish Balm.’ So the primary use is to blend the blemishes with your natural skin tone, much like CC creams. Still, I’m elaborating on the key differences.
To brief you on how it came to life- Korean women had trouble putting on foundations all the time as most of these were heavy, and the coverage did not always meet the requirements of Korean women. And then entered the BB cream, and CC followed shortly.
Another difference between the creams is that CC creams are oil-free and best for oily skin.
There are more differences like BB being a better Primer whereas, CC cream is a good color blender with natural skin tone and some off-colored areas of the skin, blemishes if you will.
CC cream also provides more coverage than a regular BB cream.
Benefits of CC Cream
– Infused with natural UV blockers(SPF over 50)
– Works as a moisturizer
– Anti-aging properties
– Provides continuous hydration
– Is not oily
– Even Coverage
How to Apply CC Cream?
The process of applying CC cream is quite simple. Just follow the simple step-by-step instructions:
Cleanse- Use a gentle cleanser that will go with your skin type. The reason this is important because you should not put on makeup without removing the dirt and oil from your face.
Moisturize- You should always moisturize, not just your face, but your entire body.
Plus, it is a necessary ritual before putting on any makeup, since moisturizing smoothes out your face.
Exfoliate- Exfoliation should be carried out RIGHT after cleansing. Still, the reason this fell after ‘Moisturize’ is because you need to do it once a week.
Without exfoliating, you can not remove the dead skin. Dead skin can severely impact the texture of your skin, and we all know textured skin is not the most ideal skin type.
CC Cream time- Now that you are done removing the dead skin, dirt, and oil from your face, all that is left to do is putting on your BB cream and voila; your face is excellent and smooth looking like a baby’s face.
Just use your clean fingers to put it on and if you own a makeup brush, then use it 15 minutes before heading out under the sun. Wait a minute for it to set and then use a second layer.
What kind of foundation to pick for your face?
Pick the CC cream that is formulated for your skin type. Read the package details to sort out the CC cream that goes with your skin type.
- Dry skin- Pick a CC cream that is made to moisturize the skin, so look for hyaluronic acid, since it’s the critical ingredient for moisturization with skincare products.
- Oily skin- Choose a CC cream that is oil-free and has a matte finish for the maximum blend.
- Sensitive skin- Select a CC cream that is fragrance-free and noncomedogenic, which is basically an ingredient that does not block out skin pores.

Before You Buy
If you are thinking of purchasing Korean CC cream, make sure you actually need it. If you have grown up in The West, Korean CC cream might not be suitable for you. Remember, Korean CC cream is manufactured keeping the Asian people in mind, so it might not give you best results.
However, that does not mean it is absolutely prohibited for westerners to use these products, as many have reported great results after applying Korean CC cream for a few weeks. Just ask a specialist before you place Korean CC cream in your skin care routine.
If you are just starting out on your base makeup journey or know enough of CC creams, then all you need to do is figure out your skin problems, like if it’s too dry or too oily for you, and then pick the best one accordingly.
